Provisional results of T-1 Capacity Auction in Ireland

04 Nov 2021

SSE Thermal is pleased to confirm that all units at its Tarbert Power Station in Co. Kerry have provisionally secured contracts in the latest T-1 Capacity Auction in Ireland.

In total, the station has secured contracts for 459MW of de-rated electricity generation capacity* across its four generating units. This auction relates to the delivery year 2022/23, which runs from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2023.

In line with EU emissions regulations, Tarbert Power Station will be required to close by the end of 2023. SSE Thermal’s other power stations in Ireland, at Great Island, Rhode and Tawnaghmore, all have existing capacity contracts in place for the 2022/23 delivery year.

Through this latest T-1 auction, the System Operators have provisionally awarded 1,120MW of capacity contracts to electricity generators and demand side response units across Ireland, at an auction clearing price of €46,150/MW.

The provisional results are subject to approval by the Regulatory Authorities and are expected to be confirmed in December 2021.

*All volumes include a de-rating factor applied in accordance with the rules set by the System Operators and approved by the Regulatory Authorities.
