Tarbert selected as possible site for emergency generation capacity21 Oct 2022
SSE Thermal can confirm that following a request from the Irish Government, we have been engaged in discussions around a potential Emergency Generation project at our Tarbert site in County Kerry. The site has been confirmed by Government as a possible location for the project, which seeks to address security of supply concerns. As a responsible business, we want to support the Government and will continue to engage with it in the coming weeks. Crucially, any Emergency Generation will be a short-term and temporary measure and will not impact our 2030 targets. We remain fully committed to our Science-Based Targets and to delivering on our low-carbon ambitions, supporting a net zero Ireland.
"We fully understand the importance of security of supply and will continue to work constructively with the Government as it seeks to develop this Emergency Generation project. At the same time, we are focused on bringing forward low-carbon flexible generation projects to enable Ireland’s transition to net zero."Catherine Raw Managing Director of SSE Thermal
